CONFIRMATION MASS SCHEDULE

The Bishop has assigned us the following dates:

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. (ALL SUNDAY CLASSES)
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. (All Monday, Wednesday, CCHS & RCIC classes)

If you have a schedule conflict, we will work with you to the best of our ability, but we cannot promise anything at this time. If you have a serious reason as to why you cannot be Confirmed on either of these dates, please let Carol Weddle know on or before February 15th, and we will alert Father Paul to your situation.

Confirmation Retreat Saturday Feb. 25, 2012

REMINDER: All candidates must attend their second retreat on Saturday, February 25. If your parent did not attend the Fall Retreat, they must attend this retreat to fulfill the family obligation.
The sign in will be in the church at 9:30, and the Rite of Election Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m.
The retreat will follow. We will serve lunch, sub sandwiches ($2.00) like we did in the Fall.
The Retreat will conclude between 3:30 p.m & 4:00 p.m.

All parents should plan to attend the Mass. Due to limited seating in the church, we ask that siblings not attend (if at all possible). Please invite your Sponsor if they live in the area.

Jan/Feb Volunteer Opportunities at St. Luke

Check the bulletin every week for opportunities to serve in our parish.

St. Luke Church is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Saturday, February 11th. One or two volunteers are needed to assist with checking in donors, and serving snacks or drinks in the canteen. The blood drive lasts from 7:00 AM to Noon. Work a few hours or the whole time. We are looking for serious workers who will interact with donors and be friendly. Interested students should call Charlie Ward at 704-882-4120.

The Building Peace committee has begun work. This is the committee that will be raising money for the land we bought for the future new church. The Building Peace committee has a need for some Confirmation students who would be willing to volunteer to glue the new Building Peace prayer into the Gather Hymnal and may need help in the future to stuff and fold items for mailing, or to do other activities involving stapling or working with handouts. Fall Confirmation Retreat

The Fall Retreat 2011 is the weekend of Oct. 22 & 23. Sign in at 11:30 a.m. in the picnic pavillion behind the church. Students will be dismissed around 4:30 p.m. or in time to attend the 5:00 Mass.

The second retreat is on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2012. TBA

REMINDER: Attendance is REQUIRED at both the October and February retreats. This is a Diocesean requirement. One parent from each family, MUST attend either the October or February retreat. This is a St. Luke Sacremental requirement.

Students enrolled in Sunday night classes will attend the retreat on Saturday Oct.22

Students enrolled on Monday & Wednesday night classes, and those attending CCHS, will attend on Sunday Oct.23.

There are no excused absenses, except illness, with a doctors note.
Students should wear outdoor clothing for the course. Athletic shoes are required. Release forms are to be completed and signed by parent at Confirmation Orientation meeting. Bring $2.00 for a Subway sandwich.
The event may be rescheduled in case of heavy rain.
One parent from each family is required one to participate/volunteer at one of the two retreats this year. This Fall Retreat is a great opportunity (and lots of FUN) to serve/help our program and enjoy the outside!!

PARENT MEETINGS : MANDATORY FOR ALL CONFIRMATION FAMILES

One parent from each family must attend the Confirmation Parent Meeting.

Sunday classes: Sunday, Sept. 11 at 6:10 p.m. in the church

Mon/Wed classes: Monday, Sept 12 at 6:00 p.m. in the church

CCHS families: Attendance is required at either meeting.

Parents will need to complete several pages of paperwork, pick up curriculum folders, and sign up
for a retreat. Please be on time!!

How to Prepare Your Child for Confirmation

How to Prepare Your Child for Confirmation

Step 1: Have your child study the faith regularly: Attend Mass weekly and on Holy Days of Obligation; read the Holy Bible and learn about the lives of the saints; pray together as a family at home; be sure your child meets all requirements of the program. These things will help enhance and support what they are learning in their religious education classes.

Step 2: Help them become aware that Confirmation is not the end of their religious experience, but the beginning of their lifetime commitment to God and the church.

Step 3: Teach children that to love God fully they must know about Him through continuing in prayer, Bible study and in service to others.

Step 4: Prepare them further by teaching them about the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. These are the gifts that the Holy Spirit brings at the time of Confirmation. Each one gives the believer a different attribute that will help them along in their spiritual journey.

Step 5: Talk with your children about their Confirmation interviews and assesments. Help prepare them for the questions that may be asked. The confirmation interview is a time for the Priest or Faith Formation Team to question the one being confirmed about their faith.

REMINDER: YOU NEED 18 Hours Community Service

All Confirmation Candidates are required to complete 18 hours of community service. All service hours MUST be completed thirty (30) days prior to the Confirmation Mass. The hours must be fulfilled as follows:

6 hours of service with a St. Luke Ministry (i.e: Room at the Inn)
6 hours of service to the Family (babysitting, cleaning, yard work, etc.)
6 hours of service to the local community (this includes school/club/scouts/church)

All service hours sheets must be signed by the adult/leader coordinating the service project. The candidate fills out the information, the parent signs to acknowledge hours are complete.
Example: 3 hours...Boy Scout Food Drive...must be signed by Scout leader, not parent.

Confirmation Dress ADVISORY

The Dress Code for Confirmation Mass is:

Guys: Shirt and tie, dress pants and dress shoes. Jackets are optional. No tennis shoes.
Gals: No bare shoulders allowed. If your dress has tank or spagehtti straps, you'll have
          to wear a sweater, covering shoulders at Mass. No mini skirts/dresses; No low cuts, no flip flops,
         (dressy sandals ok).

ROTC dress uniforms or Scout uniforms are allowed.
